Lagos State government, in collaboration with the Ikoyi Club 1938, yesterday, commissioned an Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Lagos.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the commissioning by the state’s Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Olalere Odusote, said five power projects were sponsored to curb diesel engine pollution that causes respiratory illness.
Chairman of the club, Ademola Mumuney, who commended the governor for part-funding the project with a larger share and ensuring its actualisation, said: “The plant provides 17 hours power from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. to the club, In fact, we have begun disposing off some of our generators.
“The project is highly beneficial in many ways to our esteemed club, including constant supply of power and cost savings accruable from low purchase of diesel and low maintenance costs arising from non-usage of generators.”
