Lagos govt mobilises 2,500 graduates for internship placement
Assembly holds public hearing on bill to establish Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy
Lagos State Government, in its bid to ensure that youths in the state have access to opportunities to achieve their set goals, has mobilised 2,500 graduates for internship placement.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who stated that his administration is committed to ensuring that youths in the state have access to opportunities that will enable them to realise their full potential, gave the announcement during the onboarding ceremony of 2,500 interns of the Lagos State Graduate Internship Placement Programme (GIPP), themed “Igniting a Future of Opportunities and Excellence,” held, yesterday, at the Blue Roof, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, noted that the state government recognises that the future of Lagos State depends on the investments it makes today in the young people.
He said that the commitment was not just about creating jobs but about creating pathways to success, and ensuring that youths, regardless of their background, have the tools, resources, and support they need to thrive in their chosen careers.
Sanwo-Olu further said that the internship placement programme is a testament to what both the government and citizens can achieve when they come together with a shared purpose, as empowering the youths is akin to building a brighter future for Lagos State and Nigeria.
In his welcome address, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, stated that the programme marks a significant milestone in the journey to empower the youths and strengthen the employability landscape across the city, adding that it is also a move towards building a robust and sustainable economy through youth empowerment.
IN another development, the state’s House of Assembly, yesterday, held a public hearing on a bill to establish Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy towards nurturing the future generation with leadership, cultural and social ethics.
The bill, which seeks to provide a platform for the development and nurturing of young persons for leadership purposes in Lagos State and for other connected purposes, will create educational models that will buttress the experience in legislative and executive prowess in the state.
The Speaker, Dr Mudashiru Obasa, in his keynote address, said the bill came when it’s most needed for young people to become vocal, bold and self-reliant.
He said that the bill would expose young persons to how government policies are formulated not only in Nigeria but also across the world.
