States Donate Land For Mass Housing

Th Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has said at the weekend that the expansion and rehabilitation works on the Lagos-Ibadan highway would be completed this dry season.

In a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Fashola said the long bridge at the Lagos-Ogun border on the road had to be shut because a lot of construction work was ongoing underneath it.

According to him, the ECOWAS sub-region is already looking into the issue of double-axle articulated vehicles that transport more tonnage than most roads were built to accommodate.

Fashola also said that weighbridges would be reintroduced on Nigerian roads to arrest overloading.

The minister also said that the issue of reintroducing tollgates on roads would be decided by Nigerians, stressing that he had not forgotten his experience on this, when he was Lagos State governor.

On housing, the Minister said 27 states have provided the ministry with land on which to build houses for the people.

He explained that the government had to lay the structure and establish a system before calling for private participation in the housing sector.

He said that most of the building materials to be used would be sourced locally to fast-track growth and reduce unemployment, adding that the Federal Mortgage Bank would play a significant role in providing funds.

It’s taking like eternity to finish the maintenance works on that bridge. The construction company handling the project should be fast about it. People are suffering for goodness sake.

of course we are suffering for our past blindness and stupidity. Can you make omelette without breaking the egg?

I live on the axis but tomorrow will be be better than yesterday on that road

Hurrah! Do it. And extend the working vigor to other Federal Roads and projected Bridges around the Nation. They are overdue Mr. Minister of Power, Works and Housing. What a breath of fresh air from the putrid stench of abandoned construction wasteland.
