Lagos Police launches ‘Command sweepers squad’ to combat crime in Ikorodu

Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai

The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a special tactical security outfit, codenamed the “Command Sweepers Squad,” as part of efforts to tackle rising criminal activities and strengthen security within Ikorodu and adjoining communities.

The initiative, introduced under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, follows growing concerns and complaints from residents over increasing incidents of crime across parts of the Ikorodu axis.

According to the Command, the Squad is a temporary intervention security outfit specifically established to curb criminality, restore public confidence, and enhance rapid response operations within the affected areas.

The security outfit comprises operatives drawn from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF of the Lagos State Police Command. Personnel from other sister security agencies, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), are also part of the operation.

To ensure effective coordination and swift deployment, the Squad has been strategically stationed in Ijede, providing easy access to all parts of Ikorodu and neighbouring communities for crime prevention and emergency response duties.

The Command disclosed that the Squad has been equipped with operational assets, including patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the Lagos State Police Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

Operatives have already been deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts across the area to carry out intelligence-driven raids, stop-and-search operations, confidence-building patrols, and other tactical security measures aimed at flushing out criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property.

The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the operations of the Squad would be carried out professionally and strictly in line with the rule of law. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information.

Residents can reach the Command through the following emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
