Lagos warns estate residents against violation of rules, regulations
• 3,000 youths to be empowered via vocational training
Lagos State has warned residents of government-owned estates against disregard for rules and regulations contained in their allocation letters.
In recent times, the Ministry of Housing has been inundated with cases of energy theft, abandonment of shared facilities, and refusal to pay statutory dues, among others.
The Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, issued the warning in the wake of enforcement carried out at Lateef Kayode Jakande Estate at Igando, where some residents were reported for perpetrating energy theft through bypassing the installed electrical connections of their apartments.
He stated that his ministry would not condone unwholesome acts and behaviours.
Residents were also reminded that every state-owned housing estate was designed to ensure ideal communal living and that resident representatives should be supported to ensure the sustainability of the facilities.
MEANWHILE, no fewer than 3,000 young residents are to benefit from the sixth Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s yearly ICT and Skill Acquisition programme.
Executed by Project LOUD Sanwo-Olu ICT and Skill Acquisition Centre, in collaboration with the state Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, the programme has concluded plans to host a two-month intensive training for interested residents and equip them with skills to function maximally in today’s ICT-compliant world.
The coordinator of the centre, Kenny Bakare, disclosed this to newsmen yesterday in Lagos while giving an update on the upcoming event.
He recalled that over 1,500 residents successfully participated in the training, and graduated in 2024.
Bakare explained that Project L.O.U.D aims at equipping vulnerable youths with invaluable skills free of charge.
He said: “The beneficiaries are positioned to gain the expertise to start their own business or get a great job and become self-reliant and financially independent.
“Turn your passion into profit, learn from experts, and access hands-on training.”
“Registration is ongoing and over 3,000 beneficiaries are targeted for the programme, while over 1,500 trained fifth edition beneficiaries will be graduating, as well during the graduation and induction ceremony scheduled for January 29, 2025.”
