LAPO Microfinance Bank (LAPO MfB) has concluded a series of youth-focused activities held in August to commemorate International Youth Day (IYD) 2025, with programmes spanning financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation.
The observance, marked annually on August 12 by the United Nations, had the theme “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond” this year. LAPO MfB organised a month-long set of initiatives built around economic empowerment, education, and technology.
One of the key activities was a partnership with the University of Lagos Mass Communication Students’ Association (MCSA) Week, where students, entrepreneurs, and professionals engaged in workshops and competitions. During the Finance Literacy Day, student entrepreneurs pitched business ideas in a competition sponsored by LAPO MfB. Winners received ₦150,000, ₦100,000, and ₦75,000, respectively.
The bank also collaborated with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) through a programme tagged A Day with the Corper. Corps members in various camps were trained on entrepreneurship, civic innovation, digital tools, and financial literacy.
Other events supported by the bank included TEDx Zamaru, TEDx Enugu, and The Emerge Conference, which drew thousands of young participants across different states.
The activities ended with a main Youth Day event at LAPO Place in Lagos, which featured documentary screenings, keynote speeches, and networking sessions.
Speaking on the initiative, LAPO MfB said the programmes reflected its commitment to long-term investment in youth development.
“For over three decades, LAPO MfB has been at the forefront of driving financial inclusion, supporting entrepreneurship, and fostering community development,” the bank stated. “Our engagement during International Youth Day 2025 is a continuation of this commitment to empowering young people with the tools to thrive.”
