Seeks partnership with Kwara govt for supply of 1,000 cattle daily
Lagos State Government has reiterated its resolve to continuously explore new and smarter ways of increasing agricultural productivity, reducing post-harvest losses, strengthening food distribution networks, and expanding market access for Lagos residents to have access to safe, nutritious and affordable food.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Systems, Dr Oluwarotimi Fashola, who gave the assurance yesterday during a media briefing to commemorate the 2026 World Food Day, said the food security desired for tomorrow would ultimately depend on the innovations the state is promoting, the investments it is making and the partnerships built today.
Fashola noted that as the state looks towards the future, its objective remains clear: to build a food system that is productive, inclusive, innovative, sustainable and resilient, capable of meeting the food needs of the growing population while creating wealth, generating employment and improving livelihoods across the agricultural value chain.
He added that the ministry would continue to deepen collaboration with farmers, private-sector investors, development partners, research institutions, technology providers and other stakeholders to accelerate innovation and investment in the sector.
He said that the activities for the yearly event will commence tomorrow, October 8, 2026, with a road walk from the JJT Park to Allen Avenue Roundabout and back to JJT Park, adding that the Lagos Agric Scholars Quiz Competition will be held at Fresh Food Hub, Idi-Oro Mushin, on Wednesday, October 14, while the grand finale will be held on Friday, October 16, at the Ikeja Police College Parade Ground.
MEANWHILE, the state government has contacted its Kwara counterpart for possible supply of 1,000 cattle daily to sustain residents’ heavy demand for the livestock produce.
Kwara State government disclosed this yesterday, while turning in another set of 100 livestock farmers trained in conservation and preservation of forage crops for sustainable livestock feed production through its Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
Also, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved the purchase of 500,000 cattle for the state to increase milk production.
He confirmed that Kwara State government’s renewed effort at marching up with the global trend in animal husbandry and handling had not only paid off, but had begun to attract patronage that has eventually added to the state’s income.
The governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Livestock Development, Yahaya Muhammed, described livestock as another goldmine for the state.
He said: “Lagos State government has come here to seek a partnership for likely supply of 1,000 cattle every day.”
