Laureates College wins Adeboye Mathematics Competition

Laureates College has emerged winner of the 2017 edition of the Enoch Adejare Adeboye Mathematics Challenge for Secondary Schools in Lagos State, organised by The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Province 5.

Laureates College has emerged winner of the 2017 edition of the Enoch Adejare Adeboye Mathematics Challenge for Secondary Schools in Lagos State, organised by The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Province 5. The all male representatives of the victorious school at the final stage of the competition, which held at 180 Degree Events Centre, Ojota, Lagos, were Chigozie Okidi and Aderemi Ifeoluwa, with the latter bagging the award for the best mathematics student in the state.

To win the keenly competed challenge that featured over 300 schools at the preliminary stages, Laureates College defeated representatives of Durable School and Ogunlade College, Surulere to the second and third places respectively.

The final stage of the young mathematicians’ contest that lasted for hours featured 10 schools in the first round, five for the second round and later three finalists where the Mafoluku based school emerged as winner of the sixth edition of the competition.

First place cash prize of #500,000 naira was presented to the winners, while the first and second runners up received 300,000 and 250,000 naira respectively.

The Principal of the school, Sadiq Ibrahim in an interview commended the efforts of his students who won the competition. He said, “We went through several rounds in the competition with a lot of schools participating and thankfully we won this year’s edition. The students (Chigozie and Aderemi) did not win only as a group, but also as a team and I am very pleased with them.

One of the representatives, Chigozie expressed his happiness and said “…The competition has helped motivate me to do more and I will continue to strive to become better.

There is always room for improvement.” While his partner, Aderemi revealed that the major challenge faced during the competition was time. He said, “The main challenge was time, school was on during the competition so we had to skip some classes to prepare. But we’re thankful it went the way we expected and I feel happy and proud.”
