THE LAUTECH Nanotechnology Research Group (NANO+) at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria has slated its 10th international conference on nanotechnology, themed: “Sustainable Nanotechnology: From Research to Reality 2.0” for November 23 to 27, 2026 at the university’s main campus, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria.
This year’s conference which builds on the past editions will be declared open by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN on Wednesday November 25, 2026.
In a statement by the Head of the Research Group, Prof. Agbaje Lateef of the Department of Pure and Applied Biology of the institution, the Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof. Razaq O. Rom Kalilu will be the Chairman of the occasion, while the Executive Vice-Chairman of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu is expected as a special guest of honour.
The keynote speaker is the Director-General of the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA), Professor Martins Emeje, FAS.
The LAUTECH NANO 2026 conference is the 10th in the series to be organized by the research group in its 12 years of existence, being the largest number of conferences on nanotechnology to be organized by any group or institution in Nigeria.
The annual event has become a breeding ground for the new thinkers in nanotechnology. The workshop component of the conference which focuses on hands-on training on “Green synthesis, characterization and applications of nanoparticles” has been beneficial as a capacity-building strategy to develop experts in nanotechnology in Nigeria.
The release mentioned that more than 600 early-career scholars have benefitted from the training in the last 10 years, permeating more that 50 institutions in Nigeria.
Many of these beneficiaries have integrated nanotechnology in their research activities in different areas of agriculture, engineering, pharmaceutical and medical fields, basic sciences, food and nutrition, water, environment, and renewable energy among others.
The research group is undoubtedly at the forefront of advancing nanotechnology R&D in Nigeria. It has contributed more than 220 research articles on nanotechnology in 12 years, and its members have been granted patents in Nigeria and South Africa.
It has also developed nano-based products that are applicable to industries, agriculture, renewable energy, environment, and the healthcare. The group also established an open access journal, which is the first specialized journal of nanotechnology in the Sub-Saharan Africa. The journal , ‘Nano Plus: Science and Technology of Nanomaterials’ in its 11th volume is indexed by reputable bodies in South Africa, USA, and Germany.
The 10th international conference on nanotechnology will afford critical stakeholders from academia, government agencies, and industries among others to discuss how Nigeria can benefit from nanotechnology in practical terms. There will also be panel discussions on research funding, patenting, and commercialization of research outputs.
This year’s conference will also witness award ceremony dedicated to recognizing individuals, agencies, and organizations that have partnered with the group since 2014 in the promotion of nanotechnology R&D in Nigeria.
To commemorate the 10th edition of the annual conference, students of some selected secondary schools in Ogbomoso will compete for prizes on essay writing on nanotechnology. The release enjoined strong participation of scholars, students, technocrats, entrepreneurs, organizations, and general public in the conference.
