The federal lawmakers from Oyo State, yesterday, decried the parlous state of federal roads across the state, describing them as death traps that needed to be urgently attended to by the Federal Government.

The lawmakers, led by the House Committee Chairman on Works, Akin Alabi, also frowned on the slow pace of works on construction of federal roads across the state.

Alabi, while drilling contractors and representatives of the Minister of Works over state of federal roads in Oyo State during a stakeholders’ engagement, appealed to the Federal Ministry of Works and the contractors handling ongoing projects in the state to expedite action to ensure that the projects are completed without wasting more time.

The lawmaker called on the ministry and the contractors to expedite work on the projects.

Alabi, who spoke on behalf of other lawmakers, said: “They will say charity begins at home. We used this as an opportunity to assess the state of federal roads in Oyo State. Now, we have been doing it, this is one of the things we have been doing on a daily basis, but because a lot of people are asking us questions, this is an opportunity for them to bring it to the fore what we have been doing.

However, the Ministry of Works said it had terminated the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road from the contractor and the contract would be re-awarded soon.
