Lions Clubs targets 10,000 Edo, Delta, Ondo residents for free reading glasses

Lagos Elite Lions Club

Lions Clubs International, District 404A-4, yesterday, said no fewer than 10,000 residents of Edo, Delta and Ondo states are to benefit from its free reading glasses, while 500 cataract sufferers will be surgically operated on free of charge in the 2026/2027 Lions Year.

The humanitarian organisation also revealed plans to build mobile eye clinics for school children, particularly in public schools, by converting their school buses into an eye clinic.

District Governor, Lions Clubs International, District 404A-4, Dr Doris Ken-Otokiti, disclosed this during a press briefing held to usher in the 2026/2027 Lions Year and her assumption of office.

Ken-Otokiti said to achieve this feat within one year, the Lions Clubs District 404A-4 plans to partner and collaborate with the government, organisations, institutions, and many companies and agencies, announcing a N200 million Fundraising Luncheon and Public Presentation scheduled for August this year for the same purpose.

She said: “To ensure that our vision does not lie fallow, the following immediate actions are being deployed:

“Standardising our operational structures, vetting the Terms of Reference (TOR) for all cabinet appointments, and aligning our region and zone officers with their strict membership growth and compliance mandates.

“We have sought partnerships and collaboration with the government, organisations, institutions, and a number of companies and agencies to lay the foundation for collaborative community projects and enhanced public visibility.

“The funds raised during this epoch-making event will be strictly utilised to enable us to carry out this strategic 500 cataract surgeries project and a few other projects if there are excess funds from the fundraising.”
