Mabel Oboh: ADC’s representative for inclusion, collaborative change, media excellence

Nigeria is currently grappling with major issues, with many citizens finding it difficult to fulfil basic necessities such as food. Nonetheless, there is optimism ahead through the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which aims to cultivate a better future for the country by promoting collaboration at both the national and local levels.

However, for a truly inclusive coalition, grounded and committed politicians are essential to transform the aspirations of Nigerians into real, positive effects. Mabel Oboh is one such individual—a politician, philanthropist, advocate for inclusivity, expert in media, and a person of integrity. The ADC narrative cannot encompass its full essence without acknowledging her contributions.

Mabel’s path with the ADC

Mabel Oboh, a key chieftain within the ADC and leader of the Lagos chapter, as well as a former national publicity secretary of the party, is fervently devoted to the coalition’s mission of driving significant change. She emphasises that this initiative transcends ordinary political boundaries; it focuses on uniting various groups to work together towards the enhancement of Nigeria. By adopting the “ADC DNA,” participants can embody the foundational values of the party, which emphasise integrity and vision.

Mabel’s affiliation with the ADC began as the spokesperson for the Ibeju-Lekki chapter, where she brought more than 35 years of experience in media and journalism to the organisation. Subsequently, she assumed the role of ADC’s Lagos publicity secretary, where her noteworthy contributions piqued the interest of Ralph Nwosu, the then-national chairman of the party. Nwosu invited her to play a significant role in the National Working Committee (NWC).

Her contributions included advocating for gender inclusivity, a cause that was particularly important to Nwosu and the NWC. Her appointment as the National Director of Inclusion and Diversity underscores her commitment to promoting diversity within the party. Mabel took on the role of national coordinator for the party during the 2023 Lagos State governorship election, demonstrating her proficiency in key positions. Additionally, she ran for governor in Edo State in 2020, showcasing her leadership skills. While Mabel Oboh’s specific role within the ADC coalition may not be explicitly defined, her experience and background position her as a leading figure in the Lagos ADC coalition.

Mabel attributes much of her political growth to Ralph Okey Nwosu, who instilled the fundamental tenets of the ADC DNA in her. She reflects, “Everything I know and cherish in politics today is due to Nwosu’s mentorship. His firm dedication to discipline and vision for a better Nigeria has profoundly influenced my journey.” Mabel reaffirms her dedication to the ADC’s mission, motivated by Nwosu’s unwavering belief in the creation of a new Nigeria.

She articulates her optimism that the party is now guided by capable leaders who will continue to embody the ADC ethos, which is crucial for healing and progress as a nation.

The ADC coalition’s approach

At the heart of the ADC coalition lies a commitment to inclusivity and shared accountability. Mabel commends the new leadership’s resolve, confident that they will make substantial contributions to the coalition’s achievements. She perceives this as a critical leap forward for Nigeria and eagerly invites everyone to take part in this transformative political endeavour.

As a leader in Lagos, Mabel is resolute in her support for the ADC’s initiatives. “I am dedicated to doing everything within my power to ensure the success of this coalition and our esteemed party, keeping Nwosu’s vision ALIVE,” she declared. The ADC coalition is making significant strides in Lagos, with the commitment and hard work of the state chairman, George Ashiru, by welcoming leaders from various political backgrounds, including the PDP, Labour Party, and even members of the ruling APC. Positive changes are also surfacing across the nation.

A message of optimism

The ADC coalition presents an opportunity for unity among all Nigerians, advocating for a better future. Mabel urges women, youth, and individuals with disabilities to participate in steering Nigeria’s course. “We have nothing to lose, and we cannot sink any lower. It is essential for us all to engage actively and work hard to rise again,” she advised.

The coalition’s empowering message highlights the significance of unity in rejuvenating our nation. By collaborating, we can surmount the obstacles that have hindered our progress for too long. As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 elections, the necessity for a new direction is evident. The ADC coalition stands as a promising pathway, and Mabel’s perspectives provide a guiding framework for this journey.

The path ahead

The ADC coalition is founded on three core principles:

Inclusivity: Every Nigerian plays a crucial role in shaping our shared future.
Collective responsibility: Working together, we can effectively tackle the challenges that lie ahead.
Hard work: While immediate solutions may not be feasible, our united efforts can generate significant change.

The pivotal question remains: are Nigerians prepared to embark on the journey towards a brighter future?

The ADC coalition is poised to lead. Its steadfast commitment to a better Nigeria is encouraging us all to take that vital first step.
