Maina’s kinsmen petition CJN over judge’s alleged bias

Kinsmen of former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina, have petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Mohammad, over allegations of bias against Justice Okon Abang.

Justice Abang is the presiding judge in Maina’s trial over corruption charges the Federal Government leveled against him.

In the petition signed by the family spokesman, Aliyu Maina, they prayed the CJN to intervene in the matter and asked Justice Abang to excuse himself from the case in the interest of justice and fairness.

They accused Justice Abang of prejudice in the Maina case, as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, had failed to assign the matter to another judge.

“On September 29 and 30, 2020 when the matter came up for hearing, Justice Abang frowned on Maina’s absence from court despite tendering a medical report through his lawyer that he was ill,” they said.
