An alleged rapist yesterday told the police in Enugu State how he had variously nursed having carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old orphan without success until he broke into her house and raped her at a gunpoint.

Casmir Eze, a carpenter from Umugoji Orba, Udenu Local Council of the state said the lure of the SS1 student, Marcillus Ogechi, had been so strong that he had to hatch the plot to invade her home at night to rape her.

According to him, “I don’t know what came over me, although I have been targeting how to get the girl since but no way. So, I had to use this method.”

It was gathered that Eze had on Sunday night gained entry into Ogechi’s apartment and forced her to open the door or risked being killed.
According to the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, “when the victim, who was warned not to shout or alert neighbours opened the door, the suspect, who allegedly was covering his face with scarf, went into the room and allegedly pointed a gun at the victim.

“He ordered her to switch off the lantern in the room and thereafter forcefully pounced on her and had carnal knowledge of her. Angered by this and unknown to the man that his cover was already blown, the victim, accompanied by her relations, reported the incident to the police for necessary action. This led to the arrest of the suspect, who is now helping police operatives in their investigations.”

Amaraizu added that the suspect confirmed the allegation and maintained that it was the devil that pushed him into the act.
“He is now begging for forgiveness and attributing the incident to the act of devil.”
