Manufacturers in the iron and steel sector have urged the Federal Government to apply local laws guiding establishment of industries in its efforts at reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Complex (ASC) in Kogi State.

Manufacturers in the iron and steel sector have urged the Federal Government to apply local laws guiding establishment of industries in its efforts at reviving the Ajaokuta Steel Complex (ASC) in Kogi State.

They said the core of the laws, couched to protect Nigerian interests, “if dutifully applied,” would ensure ceaseless profits and addition to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

During a meeting of stakeholders in the iron and steel sector, yesterday, in Ilorin, Kwara State, the chairman, Basic Metal, Fabricated Iron and Steel Products, Dr. Kamoru Yusuf, said Nigeria should pride herself as the giant of Africa by making judicious use of her highly talented, patriotic and committed indigenous investors.

“Nigeria would be able to participate successfully in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and compete favourably among countries in the continent.

“Ajaokuta will come with good opportunity of re-invigorating the automobile sector of the economy after a successful installation and commissioning of ultramodern machinery,” Yusuf added.
