The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has successfully contained a fallen petroleum tanker incident that occurred earlier today on Ijako Road, inward Oke Oso, along the Ajah Expressway in Epe.

The agency said it received a distress alert at 11:32.a.m and immediately activated the Whales Team from the Epe Base.
On arrival, it was observed that a Mack tanker truck conveying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit had overturned while ascending Ijako Hill after a mechanical failure. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle’s propeller detached from its joint, causing the truck to lose momentum and fall on its side. One of the compartments was observed to be leaking, prompting immediate safety and containment action.

LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu who confirmed the incident said there were no fatalities or injuries. Prior to LASEMA’s arrival, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Oke Oso Station, had commenced containment measures to prevent fire outbreak and environmental hazard.

The operation was coordinated under the Incident Command System with full multi-agency collaboration. Personnel from LASEMA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and representatives of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers are on ground. Traffic has been effectively managed to ensure safety of motorists while preventing secondary incidents.

An empty tanker was mobilized for the safe transloading of the product, after which recovery of the fallen truck will commence.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the swift inter-agency synergy and the professionalism displayed by all responders.
