Medical school seeks expansion of NHIS
President of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN), Ijanikin, Lagos, Prof. Opubo da Lilly-Tariah, has urged the Federal Government to expand the coverage of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He said doing so was one sure way of achieving successful healthcare delivery in the country.He stated this at NPMCN’s pre-convocation media briefing, where he also disclosed that the institution would confer Honourary Fellow award on former military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd).
Lilly-Tariah, who decried the present state of healthcare system in the country, stressed that universal health coverage was key if the country must overcome its healthcare challenges.
He added that expansion the nation;s health insurance scheme will improve the lot of Nigerians and reduce brain drain to a large extent. At the convocation scheduled for Thursday, September 20, 2018, he added, the college will elect 318 graduates as fellows, while two of its fellows, Dr. Ademola Olaitan and Dr. Nimi Briggs, who have served the college in various capacities, will be honoured with the distinguished fellows award.
