Melaye, Bello feud re-echoes, as Senator escapes another attack
Bello Absent From Kabba Day
It was a case of second time lucky, as embattled Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, escaped by whiskers another attack in Kabba, during the Kabba Day Celebration, when some thugs unleashed mayhem, throwing pebbles, water sachets and other dangerous weapons at him.
Melaye, it was gathered, was duly invited to the occasion, as well as the governor, but the celebration was marred by skirmishes forcing many dignitaries to scamper for safety.
Perhaps, for security reasons, Governor Yahaya Bello, who was already in Kabba for the programme, failed to show up at the venue, even though his advance team was already at the venue before the attack on the Senator.
It would be recalled that prior to the recent incident, Senator Melaye was attacked in Lokoja, during a rally, from which he also escaped unhurt.
The Guardian gathered that the ugly development started when the Master of Ceremony beckoned on the Senator to present his speech and make his donation before the arrival of the governor to the Kabba township stadium, venue of the event.
Shortly after his speech and donation of N3m, as Melaye was stepping out of the podium heading towards his bullet proof Mercedes Jeep, some thugs pelted him with stones, water sachets and other dangerous weapons, including charms.
Although the senator escaped, some of the thugs were arrested and taken away in Prison vehicle with registration number PS 300A 0/1, even as security men resorted to use of tear gas to control the rowdy situation.
