Residents of Alibuoba Quarters in Agbor, Ika South Local Council of Delta State have been thrown into mourning over the death of a middle-aged woman inside a gutter.

The lifeless body of the deceased was found inside the gully measuring over 50 feet deep and 30 feet wide along the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Road, beside Agbor Technical College.

Residents said their attention was drawn to the decomposing body of the late woman as her decomposing body was emitting out the stench from the gutter.

The situation has heightened residents’ apprehension over the perennial erosion challenge in the area, which has also put 20 buildings under threat of possible collapse.

According to them, two teenagers of same parents aged between 15 and 17 years, were swept away by the ravaging gully erosion in the area, about three years ago.

Chairman, Landlords/Landladies Association of the Area, Comrade Chukwuyem Odia, said that the erosion menace has continued to pose great challenge and danger to residents in the area.

He said following the threat of erosion, residents are already relocating from the area to neighbouring towns.

Odia noted that efforts by Landlords and residents in the area to check the menace have not yielded the expected result as it has gone out of their reach.

He recalled that the Association had reached out to some highly placed people, particularly the member representing Ika South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, among others, yet nothing has been done.
