Military confirms six pipeline vandals died at Aiteo’s fields fire disaster

Masterminds of the April 21, 2019 fire outbreak at OML 29 oilfields operated by Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production were burnt to death, according to the military.

Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Rear Admiral Akinjide Akinrinade, disclosed this shortly after inspecting the incident site at Awoba area along the 97-kilometre Nembe-Bonny oil export pipeline. Akinrinade, who expressed regret at the development, said although the vandals died in the act, efforts were underway to track their collaborators because the criminals involved in oil theft operate in groups.
