Minister urges content creators to push positive narratives

Mohammed Idris Malagi

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, has urged content creators and producers to shun mis-information/dis-information, but use their platforms to push positive and healthy narratives that will engender peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

Speaking at Africast 2023, held in Lagos yesterday, he said: “We are reminded of the pivotal role content creators and producers play in shaping the entertainment industry in Nigeria and around the world. The entertainment industry has the power to inform, educate, inspire and drive positive change. It also has the power to mis-inform and destroy communities and even nations. The outcome we get depends on the way we deploy our platforms.”

With the theme: “Broadcast Content: Synergy, Finance and Market,” he suggested: “We must always be intentional in our approach to creating and disseminating content with great responsibility. We must reflect on this great power that we collectively wield and the responsibilities it carries.”

The Director General, National Broadcasting Commission, Charles Ebuebu, described AFRICAST as a platform to address broadcasting challenges in Africa, with its main focus on financing and content .

He added that it was conceived as a forum for examining the challenges posed to broadcasting by the multifaceted socio-economic, political, cultural, technological and developmental imperatives of Africa.
