The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has elected Honourable Bala Yunusa Mohammed as its new National Chairman as Dr. Ajuji Ahmed exits the party.

Mohammed, an astute administrator and former National Organizing Secretary, hails from Kaduna State and brings to the office a wealth of experience, strategic brilliance, and an unwavering commitment to the party’s grassroots ideology.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the NNPP, Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, the party said the leadership transition comes at a critical juncture in the nation’s history.

The NNPP also formally acknowledged the departure of Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, who has resigned his appointment to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

On behalf of the national leadership, the National Executive Committee, and members across the 36 states and the FCT, the party thanked Dr. Ahmed for his dedicated service. It recognised his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future political endeavours.

He said: “Today, the Nigerian citizen is caught in the throes of unprecedented economic hardship, spiraling inflation, and a pervasive sense of insecurity that threatens the very fabric of our society.

Furthermore, we are witnessing a coordinated assault on the foundations of our democracy.

“As we approach the 2027 general elections, it has become evident that the opposition space is being targeted by. Sponsored Internal Crises: Calculated attempts to destabilize parties from within. Spurious Legal Challenges: The use of “judicial warfare” to distract and drain the resources of credible alternatives to the status quo.

“Democratic Erosion: An environment where the voice of the people is increasingly being muffled by political subterfuge. The Path Forward: Leadership with Purpose.”

In electing Mohammed, the NNPP has chosen a leader who understands these perilous times. Having served as the National Organizing Secretary, Chairman Mohammed possesses intimate knowledge of the party’s structures and a clear-eyed vision of the obstacles ahead.

He added, “Our democracy is under attack, but the NNPP remains a sanctuary for the hopes of the common man. Under the leadership of Honourable Bala, we are not just preparing for an election; we are preparing to salvage a nation.

“We have absolute confidence that our new Chairman will steer this great party through these turbulent waters with integrity and courage. His emergence signals a unified front against the forces of regression and a renewed vigor to offer Nigerians the governance they truly deserve.

“We call on all party faithful and well-meaning Nigerians to rally behind the new leadership as we fortify our ranks. The journey to 2027 is a marathon, and the NNPP is now better positioned than ever to cross the finish line as the party of the people.”
