Monarch appeals for food price reduction in Taraba
The Galadima Muri of the Muri Emirate and District Head of Jalingo, Alhaji Lamindo Abba Tukur, has called on farmers and traders in Taraba State to ease the burden on the poor by reducing the prices of food items.
Speaking over the weekend during his 40th anniversary celebration on the throne as Galadima in Jalingo, the traditional ruler expressed deep concern over the continuous rise in food prices, which he described as worsening the economic hardship faced by low-income earners.
“The daily increase in food prices is making life more difficult for indigent persons. I appeal to both farmers and traders to consider the plight of the poor and reduce the prices of food items.
“The devaluation of the Naira against food costs is a distressing sign, and if not addressed, it could lead to severe economic hardship for many,” Alhaji Tukur said.
The Galadima also took the opportunity to commend Governor Agbu Kefas for his administration’s efforts in combating insecurity in Taraba, noting that the progress made in curbing banditry has significantly improved the lives of residents.
“My decision to celebrate 40 years on the throne today is largely due to Governor Kefas’ relentless fight against insecurity in Taraba,” he stated, adding that his efforts have brought peace, not only in Jalingo but across the state, enabling people to return to their farms and businesses.”
He said that as a traditional ruler, his greatest concern was the well-being of his people, adding that security challenges had previously hindered economic activities and made life unbearable for many.
“I sincerely commend Governor Agbu Kefas for his outstanding fight against insecurity, which is gradually restoring normalcy and hope for our people,” he added.
Earlier at the event, Alhaji Kabiru Mararafa, chairman of the occasion, and the Lamdo Bakundi, His Royal Highness Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gidado Misa, praised the Galadima’s leadership.
They described him as a model of excellence in traditional governance, whose leadership qualities continue to serve as a reference point for the development of the traditional institution in Nigeria.
