Piqued at he rising insecurity situation in the country, the Youth Arise Movement (YAM) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take urgent and decisive measures to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.

The movement in press statement signed by it convener Comrade Ademola Babatunde called on the Federal Government to urgently convene all relevant security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant stakeholders, to develop and implement comprehensive strategies to protect and secure Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The convener raised the concern that for over fifteen years, Nigerians have endured relentless attacks from terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements as thousands have been killed, kidnapped, displaced, and subjected to unimaginable suffering. Communities have been destroyed, businesses crippled, and places of worship and learning turned into targets of violence.

He said ‘Today, insecurity affects every segment of society. The rich, the middle class, and the poor alike are feeling the devastating consequences of this national tragedy. No Nigerian is immune from the fear and uncertainty that have become daily realities.”

“The recent attacks on schools, students, and teachers represent a dangerous escalation of this crisis. Such attacks are not only assaults on innocent citizens but direct attacks on Nigeria’s future. Any threat to our children and educational institutions is a threat to national development and collective progress.”

Babatunde said the movement believes that this moment demands courage, patriotism, and decisive leadership. They urge President Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, and the National Assembly to rise above political considerations and place the protection of Nigerians at the centre of national priorities.

“As Nigeria reflects on the state of its democracy, it is important to recognize that persistent insecurity threatens not only lives and livelihoods but also the very foundation of democratic governance. A nation under constant siege cannot fully enjoy the benefits of democracy and development.”

The Coordinator particularly expressed concerned about rural communities, which remain among the most vulnerable due to inadequate security presence and limited protection mechanisms. These communities continue to bear the brunt of attacks by criminal elements.

The movement urged government at all levels to ensure that resources allocated for security and regional development are transparently and effectively deployed toward protecting schools, communities, farms, and critical infrastructure, particularly in vulnerable areas.

While stating that security of human lives must remain the primary responsibility of government, they called for stronger community-based security initiatives, improved intelligence gathering, enhanced collaboration between security agencies and local communities, and the provision of adequate support for lawful measures that enable citizens to contribute to the protection of their communities within the framework of the law.

Comrade Babatunde said “Nigeria faces a common enemy in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and violent criminality. This is a challenge that requires national unity, collective resolve, and unwavering commitment from both government and citizens.”

YAM expressed their committment o advocating for policies and actions that guarantee the safety, dignity, and prosperity of all Nigerians and prayed that the ideals of justice, security, and respect for human life will continue to guide the actions of the current administration as it works with Nigerians to build a peaceful and secure nation.
