The former Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, has accepted his removal as an act of God.

The former Emir is one of the five first-class kings affected by the repeal of the law that restructured the Kano Emirate and elevated them.

In 2019, ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje appointed new Emirs and dethroned Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir of Kano the following year.

However, after signing the new law on Thursday, Governor Abba Bichi Yusuf dismissed all the emirs appointed by Ganduje, giving them 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand over to the Commissioner of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, who is also the deputy governor.

Reacting to the governor’s action in an interview with BBC Hausa, the dethroned monarch expressed that he bore no grudge against anyone.

He added that he had no plans to challenge the action in court and was ready to serve in another capacity if given the opportunity.
