NAFDAC warns against fake chloroquine tablets in circulation
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) yesterday alerted Nigerians to the presence of fake chloroquine phosphate 250mg tablets.
The Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the agency was notified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) of the circulation of the drugs in Cameroun, hence Nigerians should be very vigilant.
She disclosed that the fake medicines, manufactured by a Chinese company, had no Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and were in packs of 1000 tablets.
Her words: “The use of the fake chloroquine phosphate 250mg tablets may result in treatment failure and could even cause death .”
