Naval Dockyard Limited, yesterday, flagged off its free Medical Rhapsody outreach at the Naval Dockyard, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The forum provides vital healthcare services to individuals who may not have regular access to medical care due to economic or social barriers that may have caused them to seek alternative treatments.

The outreach involved general consultations, eye care, dental care, laboratory, medication, among others.

The Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard Limited, Victoria Island, Lagos, Rear Admiral Abolaji Orederu, said the outreach was borne out of the good relationship between Naval Dockyard and the people of Oniru community, which dates back to more than half a century, when the Yard was operated by Elder Dempster Shipyard.

He said the relationship has, over the years, blossomed into something more unique with the Navy’s acquisition in 1990 and subsequent commercialisation of the Yard as a limited liability company in 2013.

He said: “We do this often, and this time, we are doing it as part of our end-of-the-year activities, to appreciate God for helping us and also to reach out to the less-privileged who cannot afford medical care. We will also render assistance to those who have serious medical conditions and treat them in our medical centre.

“The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogala, has a clear mandate for us to continue what we term ‘civil-military relations’ wherever we are located. So, this is an extension of what the Nigerian Navy is doing all over the country.”
