The Nigeria Navy (NN) has acquired a new war ship, NNS Unity, to boost operational effectiveness and security.

The ship, which departed China, where it was constructed yesterday, is expected to arrive in Nigeria in the first week of November after making occasional, but brief stops at the ports of some friendly nations and the Gulf of Guinea.

A statement by naval spokesman, Commodore Christian Ezekobe, explained that Nigerian Navy Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) was handed over at a departure ceremony in China to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (CPPLANS), Rear Admiral Jacob Ajani.

The CNS representative said, “upon joining the NN fleet, the NNS Unity would strengthen the efforts against all maritime crimes and illegalities in the nation’s territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea in general.’’
