NAZAP helping to uplift Nigerian zoos, Ali insists
The Secretary, Nigerian Association of Zoological Gardens and Wildlife Parks (NAZAP), Dr. Kabir Ali, has said that the association is helping zoos in the country to stay afloat.
In a statement, yesterday, Ali added that as a regulatory body of all zoos and wildlife parks in Nigeria, NAZAP had donated cows and money for the upkeep of the animals, as had been done at other zoos such as Obafemi Awolowo University zoo and Kaduna zoos with the animals now doing fine.
According to him, while NAZAP is aware of the pitiable situation in many zoos, especially the one in Imo, it is trying to fix it.
Highlighting that lack of fund is always the cause of starvation in government-owned zoos, Ali stated that the Coronavirus Disease contributed to the situation.
He urged privatisation of the Imo zoo, adding that NAZAP was ready to join forces with the state government in identifying suitable investors that can turn the fortunes of the zoo around in a very short time.
