The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Oyo State Command, has trained no fewer than 109 inmates on bread making and inaugurated a bakery facility to serve as an empowerment for inmates.

The Zonal Controller in charge of Zone F of Corrections, Assistant Controller-General (ACG) Abimbola Ogunyemi, disclosed this, yesterday, while inaugurating the bakery at Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan.

The bakery was constructed by Anchor Heritage and handed over to Agodi Correctional Centre.Ogunyemi said 79 out of the 109 inmates trained on bread making graduated for the training.

She said NCS don’t just keep inmates under lock and key but train them in skills of their choice to enable them to be useful for themselves and their family after leaving the Centre.

In his remarks, the Officer in charge of Agodi Correctional Centre, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), Samuel Ayodele, said the inmates at the Centre never gave him problems and loved seeing them happy at all times.

Ayodele, who will be retiring from Service on Tuesday, said corrections officers were to rehabilitate and reform inmates and not to judge on what brought the inmates to the Centre.

Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer, Anchor Heritage, Bidemi Oladipupo, said their interest for the initiative was to see inmates living a good life when they return to the society.
