The Central Burial Committee of the late Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd) has announced an October 16 interment date for the former military administrator of Lagos and Imo states. He died on January 13, 2021, at the age of 78.

The information was contained in a statement, yesterday, by chairman of the committee, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, who also requested that tributes should be sent to adieundubuisikanu@gmail.com.

Kanu was a strong believer and champion of Igbo cause. He was one of the founding fathers of Ndi Igbo in Lagos, a think tank in the economic and professional circles, and was known to have donated his property for meetings and secretariat of the body.

“When duty called for courageous men and women to defend our democracy and electoral process after the annulment of June 12, 1993, presidential election, Kanu stood up to be counted, by joining the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) pro-democracy movement as one of the leading lights that fought for the actualisation of the annulled poll.  He was later to be the chairman of NADECO,” Ohakim said in the statement.
