Plateau State map

A newborn baby boy with his umbilical cord still attached was found in an abandoned building along Ardo Lane, a mining site in Narkuta community, Jos North local government area of Plateau State.

The baby was discovered on Saturday, 17th October, 2026, after children playing around the building heard cries from the area in the morning and informed family of Lukman Yusuf Wayas about the situation. This prompted the family to alert a police officer, who immediately moved the baby to the hospital for medical attention.

Lukman said he had heard the baby crying around 11 pm before the discovery but assumed it was from a neighbouring family.

Narrating further after the baby was taken to the hospital, Lukman said a healthcare worker cut the umbilical cord, bathed the baby and provided milk.
