NGO commends police for peaceful polls

OFFICERS and men of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly those serving at the Lagos State Police Command have been commended for their exemplary role and conduct during the just concluded national elections.

In a press statement signed by its Executive Director, Mrs. Gloria Egbuji, the Crime Victims Foundation (CRIVIFON), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) noted that when compared to past elections, the Lagos State Police Command under the leadership of Police Commissioner Kayode Aderanti, had the least number of infractions with the electorate in the last elections.

According to CRIVIFON, the police’s conduct during the election was “a clear demonstration of a much higher and better understanding of their role and the civic rights of the general public.”

It added that, “at the same time, the police were also very responsive and highly efficient in tackling cases of threat and safety of the general public.”

As trainers of police personnel on human rights practice, the NGO emphasized that the conduct of officers and men of the Lagos Command was also “a demonstration of high level of training and human rights awareness that have been received by them over the years.”

The Crime Victims Foundation was founded in 1996 to champion cases relating to victims of crime and it has been at the forefront of seeking compensation for victims of crimes, domestic violence, sexual abuse and other related inhuman acts.
