A non-governmental organisation, Women Aid Collective (WACOL), has raised the alarm over the increasing cases of violence against women in Nigeria.

It stated yesterday in Enugu that no fewer than 2000 children of less than 18 years of age had been displaced from their homes in the last three years over domestic and divorce related issues.

The organisation’s Executive Director, Prof. Joy Ezilo, said about 5000 women and children reported various cases of violence in their marriages and residences in the last three years.

She listed the cases as wife battery; rape; widowhood/girl child disinheritance; property dispossession and child abandonment.
