AS part of its efforts to improve the lot of victims of gender-based violence, a non- governmental organisation (NGO), Women Advocates’ and Documentation Centre (WARDC), has donated a multi-million naira rehabilitation centre for that category of people in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The NGO’s Executive Director Dr. Abiola Akinyode Afolabi, while commissioning the five-bedroom duplex, disclosed that the edifice cost over NI12 million, adding that the facility is strictly for women and girls.

“I felt this is an opportunity to give back to the society and I also call on the various governments to embark on the construction of similar shelters (centres) for gender-based victims.

“I was very determined to build the transit centre and I even spoke to many people and they supported me with some resources too,” she said.

Afolabi lamented the lack of coordination among civil societies in the country in their fight against gender-based violence, insisting that all the civil societies in the country must change their attitudes and re-strategise in order to achieve set goals.
