Nguru fire: Buni seeks support for victims

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has directed the State’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the extent of damages to Nguru market following a recent fire disaster.    
    
He lamented that the Saturday incident was ‘sad and unfortunate, stressing that the yearly occurrence has continued to rob traders of their means of livelihood.

   
According to a statement in Damaturu by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, the government promised to explore all means towards making life more meaningful to the people.
  
“The agency is to furnish me with all details of assessments, before supporting the Nguru fire victims.
  
“I received with regret the sad news of the fire that destroyed the Nguru Central Market in the early hours of Saturday,” the statement added.

The Governor disclosed that his administration will this year complete the modern markets in Nguru, Gashua, Potiskum and Damaturu, the state capital. 
 
According to him, the modern markets are being built with fireproof materials to protect traders and their means of livelihood.

“We will ensure timely completion of the markets and allocate them to our traders to improve their livelihood,” he assured.
