Niger addresses stakeholders, residents after protests
In the aftermath of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests, the Niger State government has lauded stakeholders and residents for withdrawing participation and embracing dialogue instead.
Acting Governor, Yakubu Garba, gave the commendation in his address on the outcome of the demonstrations in Minna, yesterday.
He stressed that commitment to unity, mutual respect and constructive dialogue is not just commendable, but also the very essence of the collective dedication to the progress and development of the state.
Garba said: “You, the esteemed stakeholders and residents, are the driving force behind our state’s progress.
“I would like to extend our gratitude to the people, old and young, male and female; the leadership of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Students Union Government (SUG), National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS), artisan association, traditional leaders, Imams Forum, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), vigilance groups, road transport union, marketers’ association, and other key stakeholders. Your decision to honour your commitment and refrain from participating in the nationwide protest exemplifies your role as true partners in progress.”
He maintained that dialogue and understanding are the cornerstones of resolving conflicts and advancing the development of the state, commending the police and other security agencies and vigilance groups for their sacrifices for safety and stability of communities during the period.
The Acting Governor also applauded journalists for promoting the government’s initiatives, adding that their contribution has been instrumental in their quest to accelerate the state’s growth and development.
He reassured the citizens of the current administration’s commitment to their welfare.
