‘Nigeria awaits implications of U.S. travel ban’
The Presidency yesterday declared that it is studying the implications of an alleged travel restriction by the United States of America (USA) seeking to include Nigeria on its watch list.
American President, Donald Trump said he plans to add countries to his travel ban to bar more foreign nationals from entering the U.S.
The current ban, signed by Trump two years ago, closed U.S. borders to citizens from seven countries, mostly Muslim nations in which Libya, Iran, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, North Korea and Venezuela were affected.Countries from Europe, Africa and Asia are being considered for the expanded order, according to U.S. media.
But reacting to the development, President Mohammad Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, stated that Nigeria would not be goaded into taking any decision on the new policy based on speculations, saying the country await the implications of the ban before reacting.
