The Supreme Head of Cherubim and Seraphim (C & S) Unification Church of Nigeria, His Most Eminence Prophet Solomon Alao, has lamented that the country is on the precipice, urging the citizens, especially the young people to use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to save the country at the polls.

Alao made the call while declaring open, the ongoing three-day 2023 annual general conference of the church holding at Beulah Baptist Conference Centre, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Themed: ‘Leadership – Opportunity-laden With Responsibility (Luke 12:47),’ the programme comes to an end on Sunday.

The cleric decried the state of the economy and plummeting exchange rate, saying, six years ago; Naira was around N194 to a dollar but over N700 currently. Unless God comes to our aid, by April, I can see Naira being exchanged for about N1, 200 per dollar.”

While calling on the youths to participate actively in politics, the religious leader pointed out that Deborah, David and Solomon were political leaders in their time, maintaining that politics is not dirty but politicians are.

He urged the Christians to make a change with their PVCs, saying, “Politics is not dirty but the people. And we want to change that, not violently but through our votes.

“Therefore, as we approach the 2023 elections, don’t go there with such mindset. When you get to the polling booth, raise up your eyes to the heaven and ask God to let you know which of them to vote. Don’t vote on sentiment or emotion. Vote wisely. Don’t vote because someone is your brother or sister or uncle. Vote, because God has directed you to vote for a particular candidate.  And God shall choose the right leaders for us in the name of Jesus.

“I want to tell you that Nigeria is rapidly approaching the top of the hill. Only prayers can reverse it. It is you and I that can reverse it in 2023 by making sure that you have your PVCs and vote for the candidate of your choice. We must get it right this time around, otherwise we will be in trouble.”

While speaking on security, the cleric said: “Nigeria appears to be on the precipice and those who can save us are following is the umpire of the forthcoming election (INEC), all the security agencies, the Army, the police, the DSS and all others that have one role or the other to play as well as polling booth agents.

“We pray that none of them will compromise so that we can have a non-rancorous election. I pray that this country will remain one. The only panacea to it is to vote wisely,” he said.

He thanked his wife, Prophetess Folashade Alao; Prophetess Esther Abimbola Ajayi and others for their support.

Earlier, the Supreme Head of the Reformed C & S Church of Nazareth, Ogbomoso, who was the chief host, Ezekiel Adejumo was represented by Special Apostle Zachariah Okunloye.

He urged politicians to stop making inflammatory statements during campaigns but dwell on issues.

The cleric also urged the INEC and security agents to be fair to all while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities during the next month’s polls.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Oyo North senatorial district, Solomon Akinwale represented Governor Seyi Makinde assured Christians of constant support.

“In the forthcoming election, vote right to put an end to hardship Nigerians are passing through,” Makinde added.
