Nigeria sliding towards one party state dictatorship, says HURIWA
Wants Buhari, N’Assembly To Enforce Penalty For Illegal Cross Carpeting
A pro-democracy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has warned that Nigeria is sliding into a One Party dictatorship, with the increasing enticements by the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) to members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are cross carpeting in droves to the APC.
The group stated that it poses grave dangers to the survival of multi-party democracy in the country. It therefore wants the President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly to wade in by enforcing the constitutional provision against illegal cross carpeting by elected political office holders, to safeguard multiparty democracy from imminent collapse.
In a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA said there are no verifiable and justifiable reasons for the rampant cross carpeting of elected legislators from the opposition PDP to the ruling APC, since a subsisting Court of Appeal ruling recognise erstwhile Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic national chairman of PDP.

Well when a party has only personnel interest and its consolidation, it loses its point of convergence and consequently breaths mis-trust and treachery. PDP has starting from the rulership of Baba Egba been maradonaed into disarray, which was perfected by the Yaradua/Good luck end solution. It is unfortunate that the party does not know its true faithfuls. A scenario of a party presidential product who did not decamp stating categorically openly to the press, that he was party to the emergence of a rival party presidential victory and he still plays a role in the party politics does not create a platform of trustworthy vision. The SS, SE, East which is the only remaining faithful of the party, has to strive for there inhouse cleansing and political re-strategizing, so as to save the conservative party from the emergency of this new North/West coalition called Democrats. A one party state will be further marginalization of Nigeria.
We will review and take appropriate action.
