Anambra State government has suspended tricycle and shuttle bus unions in the state for six months with immediate effect, following conflicts among various persons and entities claiming to be appropriate authority to unionise tricycle and shuttle bus operators.

The state government said security reports indicate that those masquerading under different names as tricycle (keke) and shuttle bus unions are orchestrating the breakdown of law and order in the state.

In a statement, yesterday, in Awka, the state Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, added that there are conflicts arising from various persons and entities claiming to be the appropriate authority to unionise operators, who have openly rejected these claims and insist that the unions are not working for them.

Nwosu, in the statement, titled, ‘Government suspends Tricycle, Shuttle Bus Unions,’ dated September 29, 2022, maintained that the suspension order stands, pending further investigations and a possible harmonisation of the unions, which shall have a leadership known to and recognised by the state government.
