FRSC clamps down on unauthorised number plates
Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has ordered an immediate clampdown on fake diplomatic and other unauthorised number plates plying Nigerian roads.
Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Olusegun Ogungbemide, who announced in a statement, said the order is part of the administration’s proactive approach towards enhancing national security.
Mohammed said the identified number plates were fraudulently produced by criminals, adding: “They were neither produced by any of the production plants of the FRSC in the country, nor issued by the motor licensing authorities of states.” He listed some of them to include NYCN, Peace AMBASSADOR, NAUS, CYMS, UN-UNITY 01, UN-AMB and NANS.
To halt the criminal activities, Mohammed said the corps had approved immediate enforcement across all formations for speedy arrests and seizures. He urged the public to notify relevant authorities for appropriate sanctions.
