Group disburses N37.75m to six charities caring for vulnerable children

A not-for-profit organisation, Worship for Change, has announced the disbursement of N37.75 million to six charities caring for orphans and children with special needs in Nigeria.

The announcement was made yesterday during the presentation of cheques to beneficiaries of the Green Worship 7 benefit concert, held in Aguda, Lagos. The six beneficiaries, which received N6.125 million each, are Flora Trust Foundation, Lagos State; Gilead Initiatives, Lagos State; Agbedare Jesus Care Foundation, Oyo State; Gold Gate Missions, Adamawa State; Bethesda School for the Blind, Lagos State; and Jesus Orphanage, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Since its inception in 2006, Worship for Change has raised and distributed over N160 million to 44 charities, transforming the lives of thousands of indigent children across the country.

Speaking at the event, President and Chief Responsibility Officer of Worship for Change, Mr Wale Adenuga, attributed the success of the initiative to the selfless contributions of individuals who attended the Green Worship 7 concert and participated in the 21-day giving campaign.

Adenuga explained that Green Worship is an evening of worship featuring gospel artistes and serves as a benefit concert aimed at raising awareness and support for charities dedicated to orphans and children with special needs.

“The charities we are helping specifically care for orphans and children with special needs. Things are becoming challenging these days, so the support we have raised will go a long way to support them and create awareness for what they are doing,” he said.

He emphasised that only charities actively working to assist children with special needs are selected for support. “To qualify, we must be sure they are doing the work. We do not work with middlemen; we work directly with the people doing the work. We ensure that the people we are helping are actually doing the work. We also ensure to choose charities from within the country to create a good spread.”

Worship for Change, through its benefit concerts, has raised millions of naira and positively impacted the lives of thousands of vulnerable children. Adenuga reiterated the organisation’s commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of these children, saying: “With unwavering dedication and continued support, we remain committed to making a greater impact on the child, one step at a time.”
