Members of Kauru communities in Southern Kaduna have lamented the activities of terrorists, who abduct and kill some of their members at will, despite payment of ransom.

Consequently, they appealed to the government to provide them security against these terrorists. According to them, the Kauru Local Council Community Development Associations (CDAs) are deeply saddened and outraged by the recent attack on the Surubu community in Kumana chiefdom, where three innocent lives were brutally taken by their abductors despite the payment of ransom.

Spokesperson for the associations, Duniya Achi, in a statement, said this heinous act is a stark reminder of the escalating insecurity in their local government area.

He said: “We condemn it in the strongest terms. The Kauru CDAs Forum commiserates with the families of the victims and the entire Surubu community, who have been left to mourn the loss of their loved ones.

“We share in their grief and pain, and we stand in solidarity with them in this difficult time.

“We appreciate the efforts of the government and other stakeholders in establishing the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in our Local Council.

“This is a welcome development, and we acknowledged the progress made so far in addressing the security challenges facing our communities”. He added, “However, we strongly believe that more needs to be done to safeguard the lives and property of our people.

“The recent attack on the Surubu community is a clear indication that the security situation in our area remains precarious, and we cannot afford to be complacent.

“We, therefore, call on the government and security agencies to take more proactive measures to prevent such attacks in the future.

“This includes increasing the presence of security personnel in our communities, providing them with the necessary resources and equipment, and working closely with local vigilantes and community leaders to gather intelligence and track down perpetrators.”

He urged the government to address the root causes of insecurity in the entire Kauru Local Council, including poverty, unemployment, and lack of access road, among other basic amenities.

By providing economic opportunities, improving infrastructure, and delivering essential services, he said, the appeal of criminality can be reduced, while a more secure and prosperous environment would be created for all.

The group appealed to their community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.  We must work together to prevent crime and protect our communities,” they declared.

The CDAs further explained that as a forum of leaders representing the various community groups in Kauru Local Council, they are committed to working with the government and other stakeholders to promote peace, security, and development.

“We will continue to advocate for the rights and interests of our communities and push for more effective solutions to the security challenges facing our area.

“We demand justice for the victims of the Surubu attack and their families, and we call on the government to take concrete steps to prevent such tragedies from occurring again in the future,” they declared.
