A fire outbreak yesterday at AG Leventis, Iddo House, in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State, was successfully contained, preventing what could have been a major disaster.

The fire, which started on the first floor of the seven-storey commercial building, was reported at about 10:22 a.m. in an archive room measuring approximately 108 square metres.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) responded swiftly, deploying teams from the Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations to the scene. The combined efforts of the firefighters confined the fire to its point of origin, averting further spread and saving the structure from being completely destroyed. The building is occupied by the Nigeria Bottling Company PLC.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest that the incident may have been triggered by self-ignition in the confined archive room due to rising room temperature.

The LSFRS confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the operation, which has since been concluded. Authorities have reiterated the importance of regular safety checks, especially in buildings housing sensitive materials prone to combustion.
