Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), has conveyed deep condolences to the Government and people of Niger State following a devastating tanker explosion at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. The tragedy claimed several lives and left others injured.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Lokpobiri expressed profound sorrow over the incident and extended his sympathies to the bereaved families. “I am deeply saddened by this tragic event, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. May the departed souls rest in peace, and may God grant their loved ones the strength to bear this loss,” he said.

The Minister also prayed for the quick recovery of those injured and urged Nigerians to exercise caution around petrol-laden tankers during emergencies. “I strongly appeal to the public to avoid approaching such tankers during accidents. The risks are enormous, and lives are too precious to lose unnecessarily,” he warned.

Lokpobiri called for improved safety measures across the petroleum transportation chain, noting that he had directed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to investigate the incident.

Reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing safety in petroleum distribution, the Minister emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government, transport operators, and the public to prevent similar tragedies. “This incident underscores the need for collective responsibility to prioritise safety in all aspects of petroleum distribution,” he added.

Lokpobiri assured Niger State of the Ministry’s support during this difficult time and reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring safety and well-being in petroleum operations nationwide.
