The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Blessing Chidubem Nwachukwu, over an alleged plot to stage her own kidnapping and obtain N3 million ransom from her family.

The suspect was reportedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026, with her family subsequently paying N3 million for her release.

However, she was allegedly not released after the ransom was collected, prompting the police to launch further investigations into the incident.

According to the command, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, traced the suspect to a hideout in Asaba, Delta State, where she was arrested on September 18.

Preliminary investigations, the police said, revealed that Blessing allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and another male accomplice, whose identity is also unknown, to stage the kidnapping and obtain money from her family.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement that the suspect was assisting investigators with useful information that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify her alleged accomplices, who are still at large.

Ikenga said the police were continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish the full circumstances of the alleged crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Oji Ama, directed that the investigation be intensified to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
