Assistant Coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) Ibadan, Akin Olowokere, died on Monday morning after collapsing during a training session with the team in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Olowokere was said to have slumped on the pitch during the club’s morning training and was immediately attended to by medical personnel before being taken to a hospital.
The cause of death has not been officially disclosed. As of press time, the club had not issued a formal statement.
Olowokere, a former player with Sunshine Stars of Akure, was among the recently appointed members of 3SC’s technical crew following the exit of the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching staff.
He had been unveiled weeks earlier as one of the assistants to the head coach and was preparing for the upcoming season.
Before joining 3SC, Olowokere had served as an assistant coach at Sunshine Stars under Edith Agoye, after ending a playing career in which he was a regular in the Akure-based side.
The Monday session was part of 3SC’s pre-season preparations. Training was halted after the incident, and players and staff were seen leaving the pitch visibly shaken.
