The Adamawa State Government has called for peace following a violent clash between farmers and herders last weekend that left five people dead in Kukta community, Waltadi ward of Song Local Council.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, resulted in multiple fatalities.

The Guardian learnt that the conflict, which had been simmering for days, initially claimed the lives of one farmer and one herder before escalating into a broader confrontation.

In a statement, Senior Special Assistant on Peace and Security to Governor Ahmad Fintiri, Ahmad Lawan, condemned the killings, describing them as a “barbaric and unlawful act.” He urged both sides to lay down arms in the interest of peace and assured residents that the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is committed to protecting lives and property across the state.

Lawan also noted that the state’s Commissioner of Police had deployed an anti-riot squad to the affected area. He urged all residents to support peace efforts and cooperate with the mechanisms to restore order.

“I also call on critical stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders, youth leaders, and politicians, to educate their communities on the importance of peace,” he added.
