Agidigbo FM boss, Oriyomi Hamzat, hospitalised after tragic Ibadan stampede
The Chairman of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, Oriyomi Hamzat, was taken to an undisclosed medical facility after he lost consciousness following a deadly stampede at an Ibadan Christmas funfair that killed 35 people, the majority of whom were children.
A source claims that the shock of the tragic event, which also injured multiple people, is the cause of Hamzat’s current health issues.
“The chairman, Agidigbo FM, Ibadan, is currently unconscious and at an undisclosed hospital. Due to the tragic event that happened yesterday, he could not handle the shock and passed out,” the source said.
The source, however, assured of providing further updates on the development.
The incident occurred when an estimated crowd of over 5,000 children gathered for the event, reportedly drawn by promises of cash handouts and free food. Witnesses say the mass stampede occurred as attendees struggled to gain entry following the arrival of the main organisers.
However, President Bola Tinubu has ordered a full investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s spokesperson, Tinubu, on Thursday, expressed profound sadness over the tragedy. Tinubu offered his condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Oyo State.
The president also urgently directed the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances of this tragedy thoroughly.
He said that it is imperative to determine whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to this painful incident, ensuring a transparent and accountable process.
